Birdwatcher Boardgame and Kickstarter

Birdwatcher is a game set in the late 1800s, where players compete against each other as rival wildlife photographers. The incredible bird art was created by biologist and scientific illustrator Lauren Helton, all other images, graphics, and layouts were created by me.

Working on this project was a wonderful challenge: several decks of cards, the logo, box design, and rulebook all had to fit into the same aesthetic world while retaining individuality.  The project evolved as we worked on it; playtesting and continual development meant that the design needs shifted weekly, frequently adding or removing components at the last minute.

From beginning to end, the design of this game was an iterative, collaborative process. The Oni Games crew and game designer Zakir Jafry designed a game that is easy to learn and fun to play, and gave me broad license on the design to create user-oriented components and a successful Kickstarter campaign.

The Kickstarter campaign for this game required fast-paced collaboration and a readiness to produce ready-to-ship designs at short notice as stretch goals were reached and backers made suggestions for rewards.
